What Makes It Unique

Few marinas open straight onto a living Roman monument: the promenade from the pontoons leads directly to Diocletian's 1,700-year-old palace, around which the whole city grew.

The Story Behind

In 293 AD the Emperor Diocletian ordered his retirement palace built on the site of the Greek settlement of Aspálathos; medieval Split grew within and around its walls, and the marina is the modern gateway to it.

Local Life

The Lungomare — one of the Adriatic's finest promenades — begins at the marina and leads into a city that lives inside a Roman palace.

Best Time to Visit

Central Dalmatia's season is late spring to early autumn; the breakwater shelters from southerly winds. July–August are busiest.
