The Story Behind

The bay's maritime story is Venetian: after the second Ottoman siege of Corfu in 1716, the Venetians built an arsenal at Govino Bay to service and shelter their fleet, and its ruins survive beside the modern marina.

Gouvia is a lively Corfiot resort village of tavernas and beaches; the marina sits a short ride from Corfu's Venetian old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Ionian is gentler than the Aegean — lighter summer winds and warm water make late spring to early autumn ideal; July–August are busiest.
